See how Phil and Anne Munro from Wairewa Station in South Canterbury played a major part in one of the worlds biggest sporting events…the 2006 US Tennis Open!
This down to earth New Zealand farming couple has achieved a great feat, with their wool catching the eye of top tennis felt maker Tex Tech Industries, and tennis ball manufacturer Wilson. Wilson exclusively supplies balls to the US Tennis Open.
The Munro's wool has been used to make the felt for some of these official balls due to its colour, superior bulk and cleanliness and they have been branded Wairewa Station in recognition.
H.Dawson Farm Directs Gavin Crump introduced the Munro's to the manufacturers on a special visit to Wairewa Station. Here they were shown the on-farm procedures of production and harvesting of Perendale 2nd shear wool. They were extremely pleased with what they saw and so enamored by what was involved in the process that they immediately secured the wool and asked H.Dawson Farm Direct to have it scoured and ready for shipment to the US as soon as possible. Phil and Anne's wool continues to be sent to Tex Tech Industries for tennis ball felt.
We, as New Zealander's and a farming company, are delighted for the Munro's.
